 1)  Talk time.    What have we done this week?  What was one good thing that happened.  Let's say thank you to Jesus for the good things 2) Lesson  -  Last week we learned that Jesus is a shepherd who looks after us really well just like a good shepherd looks after his or her sheep.   Today we are going to hear about something else Jesus said He was. Show the kids a bunch of grapes :  What are these?  ( They will want to eat them so let them have a few whilst you are talking)   Does anyone know where grapes grow?    They dont grow on trees , they grow on vines.  Vines are a bit like trees but they don't grow up tall like trees do, they wind around things and grow up walls or fences like this.  Show picture  Can you see how one stem which grows down into the ground has lots of branches which make grapes?   Jesus says that He is the vine - the main trunk - and we are the branches. ( I...

1) talk time -  what did we do at Christmas? Presents? People we spent time with? Places we went.  Give thanks for the holidays and welcome Jesus into our New Year. 2) Introduce new term :  Before Christmas we were learning about Jesus.  We learned that He came as a baby,  He had a family and He went to school and grew up just like we do.  We learned that Jesus came to show us what God is like.  As a grown up Jesus did lots of wonderful things.  He looked after people and was kind.  He made sick people better and even made dead people come alive again.   Today we are going to look at one of the things Jesus said.  He said some very interesting things which are important. Who knows what this is.  ( Show picture of shepherd)  Talk about the things a shepherd does.    1) He looks after the sheep and takes them to wherever there is good grass to eat and where there is water.  he finds them a safe place to s...

Intro

Last term we looked at the person of Jesus, stressing to the children that He came to show us what God is like.   He was a baby, a child, a grown up.  He had a family, went to school and had a job.  He was tempted and He did miracles.  By and large I think the programme worked well so this term we will continue talking about Jesus - and I thought a good ' hook' on which to hang the teaching might be the names Jesus gives Himself. Shepherd, Vine, Door, Bread, Way, Truth ,Life, Resurrection, Light Format same as last year.  Teaching time, worship time, craft time, play time.   Prayer time didnt really happen much last year, due I think to the way the sessions were structured.  So perhaps this year we should start every session with a chat and pray time...... asking the kids what they did this week ( favourite thing/place/activity, anyone who is ill in their family, anything they want to pray for) followed by a thank-you + please prayer ta...
