Vine 15th Jan

 1)  Talk time.    What have we done this week?  What was one good thing that happened.  Let's say thank you to Jesus for the good things

2) Lesson  -  Last week we learned that Jesus is a shepherd who looks after us really well just like a good shepherd looks after his or her sheep.   Today we are going to hear about something else Jesus said He was.

Show the kids a bunch of grapes :  What are these?  ( They will want to eat them so let them have a few whilst you are talking)   Does anyone know where grapes grow?    They dont grow on trees , they grow on vines.  Vines are a bit like trees but they don't grow up tall like trees do, they wind around things and grow up walls or fences like this.  Show picture

Can you see how one stem which grows down into the ground has lots of branches which make grapes?   Jesus says that He is the vine - the main trunk - and we are the branches. ( If it is possible try to get some sort of plant with roots on it for the kids to look at to help them understand how things grow)  Jesus wants us to grow fruit.  But not grapes!  He wants us to grow these fruits.

Write the fruits of the spirit on paper plates with emoji type drawings to illustrate ( given that the kids cant read the words :) !)
Love 💓  Joy 😁  Peace 🕊  Patience 🙏  Kindness 😇 Faithfulness 💑  Goodness  👍
Gentleness 🐤 Self-control 👮.    These are the things Jesus wants to grow in our lives so that we are like Him.   But we cant grow these things by ourselves.  Our grapes cant grow in this bowl can they?  They can only be alive and growing when they are on the vine - still hanging on the branches and getting water and food from the roots in the ground, through the trunk.

We need to have Jesus in out hearts so that we can grow His special fruit.

Lets sing to Him to tell Him that we want Him in our hearts.

Worship :  this is one to watch and maybe play along with instruments  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdKj8pntC2Q
and from last week - I have decided to follow  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4VleZnM1Ng

Craft -  Paper plate growing fruit.

Need 1 paper plate per child, brown crayons, lolly sticks print out of bunch of grapes ( small)

Use this as the basic idea but instead of having flowers on the stick have a bunch of grapes instead.

Colouring page ( or use tissue paper to stick on to make more 3d looking grapes)

Snack - if the grapes have lasted till the end eat the rest of them 😀

Game.  Use the paper plates with the fruits of the spirit written on them to play a sorting game. Set the plates out on the floor round the room.  Have cut out emojis  ( print off multiples of the 9 above) and put them in a pile - each child picks an emoji from the pile and matches it to the right word, placing it on the plate.
