Where would you like to go if you could go anywhere in the world? Lets have a look at some really nice places you could visit ( Show pictures of beaches, playparks, mountains, countryside etc etc) talk to the children about why they would want to go there, how they would travel. Ask if anyone has been anywhere exciting -(Elena and Anita and Anna all def have. ) Talk about your own travels. Lets pray and thank God for making such a fun world. Pray
Lesson- Do you remember that last week we heard that Jesus came alive again and went to meet His friends? Even Thomas saw Him and believed Jesus had really come back from being dead. Well after that Jesus spent some time talking to His friends and telling them lots of things about God. And then He said He was going to go away and they wouldnt see Him again. Where do you think He was going? To the seaside? To Disneyland? To Antarctica? No. Jesus was going to heaven. His friends were sad because they didnt want Jesus to go. But Jesus said ' dont worry, when I go to heaven Im going to ask God to send you someone to help you' Do you know who that was? It was the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is brilliant because He can be everywhere all the time and He can even be IN OUR HEARTS!!! That means that we can have God with us all the time. When Jesus was here He could only be in one place. He was in the desert or at the temple or in a boat on the sea. But the Holy Spirit is living inside me, and He is next door with all the people in church. He is in Moneyreagh and in Belfast and in all the countries in the whole world right now. Isnt that amazing?
Jesus said that the Holy Spirit is a bit like water. Im going to show you what He is like using this polystyrene cup. DEMO
- “This cup represents you.” (Show one of the cups.)
- “This water represents Living Water which represents the Holy Spirit.” (Show container of water.)
- “To live for God, you need to be filled with His Spirit.” (Fill cup with water.)
- “It would be nice if we could just get filled with His Spirit once and stay full all our lives. “
- “Then we would go through life producing the fruit of the Spirit (Galations 5:22) every day.”
- “But it doesn’t work that way, because God’s Spirit leaks in our lives.”
- “When we sin, His Spirit leaks.” (Poke a hole in the side of the cup with the pencil, and let the water drain into the basin.)
- “The more we sin, the more His Spirit leaks.” (Poke more holes in the side of the cup.)
- “So we need to go back to the Lord every day to say sorry and ask Him to fix us” (Use the cloth to dry the outside of the cup and the tape to cover over the holes.)
- “…and to get a fresh filling of His Spirit.” (Pour more water into the cup.)
- “But of course, what we want sometimes isnt what Godwants. And we do wrong things (poke new holes in the cup), so, we need to keep coming back to God, saying sorry and doing what He says so that He can fill us again.” (Repeat the process. This time, let the water overflow the cup, call up a few volunteers and have them use the extra cups to catch as much of the overflow as possible.)
- “As long as we keep coming to the Lord to be filled each day, He will bless us with more of His Spirit than we need, and the overflow will bless those around us.” (Ask your volunteers if they feel blessed. After a moment, stop pouring and poke a new hole in the bottom of the cup.)
- “But if we stop coming to Him daily, our cup will eventually run dry, and we will have nothing worthy to share with others.”
- “We’ll be just like this cup – useless for our purpose.”
- “Because it’s never the container that blesses people; it’s the Living Water inside!” (Thank and dismiss your volunteers.)
