Door 5th Feb
Talk time - what sort of house do you live in? Show pictures of different types of houses ( I'll bring these in ) Did you know there are some people who dont have a house? A house costs alot of money and some people dont have enough to be able to buy or rent somewhere to live. Some people have to live in a caravan or a tent. Some even have to sleep outside even if it is very cold or raining. Lets say thank you to Jesus for our houses and all the things in them. And lets pray for the people who dont have a house. Lets ask Jesus to give everyone a safe warm home to live in.
Lesson We have been learning about some of the things Jesus says He is. Can you remember? He says He is a shepherd who looks after His sheep ( that's us) He says He is a vine that grows lovely branches ( that's us) and those branches bear fruit. And last week we learned that Jesus is bread. He feeds our hearts and He can be shared out among all the people in the whole world - Jesus never runs out.
Today we are going to learn about something else Jesus said. He said
I am a door.
How many doors can you find in this room? What does a door do? ( Keeps things in , keeps things out, keeps a room warm, stops noise coming in etc) Doors are very useful things. But the door Jesus was talking about was something very special.
Act this part out with toy sheep and building blocks ( to make the sheepfold ) and toy lions/wolves ( I will bring them ) Do you remember we talked about Jesus being a shepherd? Well, in those days when people were out in the fields looking after the sheep they sometimes had to go a long way from home to find good grass for the sheep to eat. So instead of bringing the sheep home they would make a camp out in the fields and the sheep and the shepherd would sleep outside. But there were wolves and bears and lions out in the countryside - and they like to eat sheep! They like to eat people too. So it was a bit dangerous to camp out at night in the dark in the countryside.
So, what the shepherds would do, is they would build little stone huts or sheds ( you are going to build one of your own in a minute) and they would put all the sheep inside. And then, and this is the important bit the SHEPHERD would be the door! He would lie down over the opening and stop the sheep from getting out and getting lost, and stop the wolves and the bears and the lions from coming to catch the sheep. That was brave wasnt it? The sheep were warm and cosy inside. They were safe and protected. But the shepherd was lying on the ground outside in the cold watching out for anything dangerous.
Jesus says we are His sheep and He is the door. He keeps us safe, He doesnt let us wander off and get lost. He watches out for danger and fights our enemies when they come to bother us. If we have Jesus in our hearts then He is like a big door for our lives. He lets good things in and keeps bad things out, He keeps us safe.
Lets sing and tell Jesus how good He is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=22&v=YUfwoUPTg68&feature=emb_logo Im a child of God.
Craft. ( change the words to Jesus is the door) - it might be better to use lolly sticks or building blocks rather than cheerios as there will be much eating and not much crafting if edible materials are used 😁

Colouring page
After craft and colouring time if you can get them to sit again for another few minutes to show them a Lego wall with a door in it and lego minifigure on one side.Playtime - if there's time and resources make a ' den' using tables, chairs and a large blanket. Most kids can pretend to be sheep and one can be the shepherd. Perhaps some could be wolves or bears!
