March 19th Mother's Day

 Talk time.   Today is Mothers day - that means its a day when we say thank you to God for our Mummy.  And we are especially kind and nice to our Mums today. We give them hugs and kisses and tell them that we love them.   We can do that every single day of course, but Church wants to make sure that all Mums know how special they are so today we think about and pray for our Mums especially hard.

What does your Mummy do for you?  Mummies work awfully hard for us and they love us very much so we are going to pray and ask God to be really good to our Mums.  Lets pray that God gives them a big hug and a kiss today and makes them smile and be very happy.    Pray

Lesson ;

Do you remember what Jesus's Mummy was called?

Jesus loved her very much.  She is a special lady so today we are going to find out all about her.

Use pictures ( I will provide) of Mary,  Mary with angel ,Mary with wise men, Mary with children, Mary with worried emoji, Mary with balloons and streamers. Mary crying  Hold them up or pin them on a board to illustrate the story as you go along.

Mary was an ordinary little girl who grew up in an ordinary family and when she was a teenager she was going to get married to Joseph.  She was getting ready for her wedding and feeling excited about going to live with Joseph.  But all of a sudden one day an angel came into Mary's house.   What do you think the angel looked like?   I think maybe it was a big surprise to Mary because the first thing the angel said was '  Dont be scared Mary.  Its OK'   Do you know what the angel told Mary?   He told her that she was going to have God's baby.  How do you think Mary felt about that?

Mary could have said no to God.  She could have said ' I dont want to do what You say'  ' I dont want to follow Your plan'   But Mary said Yes to God.  Even though it was a bit scary and she knew that people would not understand what was happening.  Joseph didnt understand.  He didnt want to marry Mary when he knew that she was going to have a baby.  But God sent an angel to Joseph too!   And the angel told Joseph that it was all going to be OK and he should marry Mary.  So he did.

Do you remember where baby Jesus was born?   Yes, He was born in a stable.  Can you remember who came to visit Him when he was born?   Yes, shepherds and wise men.    Mary must have been very surprised to have these visitors.   Mary and Joseph were poor and when Jesus was a little baby they had to take Him on a long journey to another country to escape from King Herod.   After a while they came back home and Mary had more children so Jesus had brothers and sisters.  She must have been a very busy Mummy.

Do you remember we heard a story about Jesus getting lost when He was on holiday with His family?   Mary and Joseph had to look for Him for three days before they found Him in church talking to grown ups.   Mary must have been a very worried Mummy

When Jesus grew up and was a man He was invited to a party.  He took His Mum with Him.  That was nice of Him wasnt it?  Im sure they had a really nice time singing and dancing and eating nice food.  It is nice to do fun things with our Mums.  Maybe you can go out somewhere nice with your mummy this week.

After Jesus had shown everyone what God is like, God asked Him to do something very very hard.  He asked Jesus to die.  That's sad isnt it?  Everyone has to die because everyone has done wrong and bad things and the rules say that if we do wrong and bad things we have to die.  Most people die when they are very old and their bodies have worn out and they are very tired.  But Jesus wasnt old.  He wasnt worn out and He wasnt tired.  God asked Jesus to die on a cross.  We will be talking about this another time.  But when Jesus died how do you think His Mummy felt?   I think she felt very very sad indeed.  When Jesus died He was really sore and crying and He had cuts and bruises and was bleeding alot.  I think His Mum wanted to help Him, but she couldnt.  She loved Jesus very much and she knew He was going to die.   Jesus was sad too.  He loved His Mum so He asked His best friend John to look after her.  Even when Jesus was dying He was thinking about His Mum and wanting her to be safe.
